The “method” Method

Monday, October 29th, 2007

I threw out all the toxic cleaning stuff we had around the house and replaced them with cleaning products that are safe for both Avery (and us) and the environment.

My brand of choice at the moment is method because it was the most readily available. I picked up my starter kit at Target, but I’ve seen it at various grocery stores as well as specialty stores. method’s cleaning products are non-toxic and biodegradable. They use ingredients that are derived from plants and they don’t test on animals.

I first started using method’s All-Purpose cleaner in Avery’s bathroom when we brought him home from the hospital because I thought that the conventional cleaning products we had were too strong for an infant’s underdeveloped lungs. I found that I needed to open up both upstairs and downstairs windows just to “air out” our house after I cleaned and I thought, “This can’t be good.” I thought it was such a paradox that I was cleaning our house with stuff that could possibly harm him (and us).

I mean, has anyone noticed the ingredients on traditional cleaning products? Nothing but a bunch of chemicals with numbers after them. method’s All-Purpose cleaner lists:
Purified Water
Grease Cutters (Natural Minerals)
Performance Enhancer (Grains/Minerals)
Naturally-Derived Surfactant (Corn/Grains)
Fragrance Oils
Colorants

I’m not a chemist, but it sure looks like the natural choice is the better choice. For us and the environment.
